Metal tongue drum with accompanying sticks. The instrument can be played with or without the sticks. Playing it without, using only the fingertips to strike the tongues, results in richer overtones. Easy to play, but a challenge to master, the tongue drum’s healing sound is enjoyed by many.
The metal tongue drum is a relatively new instrument which is based on the principle of the wooden slit drum. The slit drum is known to have been developed independently by multiple ancient civilisations, from Indonesia to Africa and South America.
